Rebirth

The myth of the phoenix began in ancient Egypt, like all good things do. The priests of Heliopolis told Herodotus, the father of history, that every 500 years, the benu bird, a supernatural creature associated with the gods Ra, Atum and Osiris, made itself a nest of spices and set itself ablaze, from which a new benu bird was born. It would then embalm its parent’s ashes and deposit them on the altar of Ra in Heliopolis. The benu bird was connected not just to resurrection but creation; according to Egyptian myth, it was the benu bird who flew over the waters of chaos before the beginning of the world and ignited the process of creation.

For this piece, instead of Art Deco being used as the foundational style, impressionism as inspired by Monet was used, to better capture the vitality and borderlessness of newborn flames. A yellow-white dime center and the gold of the phoenix’s chest and tail feathers illustrate the raw creative force; the green of the wings, on the other hand, suggest vegetation, water, spring; in other words, life, brought forth and sustained through creation channeled.

The Rebirth framed poster is printed on thick matte paper. The matte black frame adds an extra touch of class.
