The Gods Reformed: Poseidon & Neptune

Like with Zeus & Jupiter, Art Deco was the foundational style for his brother. However, a slightly different style had to be used. Poseidon was the god of the sea; he could be calm enough for Greek merchants to sail the Aegean on glass water and he could be terrible enough to keep Odysseus away from Ithaca for ten years after the Trojan War. The softer tone of the god’s body and the calmness of his halo reflect Poseidon’s benevolent side while the determined features, the fist and the trident testify to his power and knife thin anger. The planet Neptune floats in a deep blue sky. The red, highlighting the lower half of the god’s body, reminds us of the sailor’s superstition: Red sky at night, sailor’s delight; red sky in morning, sailor’s take warning. Which it is is known only to Poseidon.
